Meet the team

2022 is nearly one month old!

And as we walk through the year, we can be a little more hopeful that the days ahead are more positive for all. At CGC Event Marquees we are looking forward to 2022 and all the events and celebrations to come.

Our team is excited about helping to make all those events and celebrations special, so we thought we would introduce ourselves.

And here we are…

Mark Jones-Locke

Marquee Director – The Boss

I have worked for CGC Event Marquees for the past 31 years (I know what you're thinking, I don't look old enough!). Over the last three decades, I have been fortunate enough to work with some fantastic people; customers, clients and colleagues.

As a skilled and experienced team, we have been involved with a wide range of events including:

  • Over 600 weddings

  • Birthday parties

  • Corporate events hosted on city centre roof tops

  • Amazing charity events

  • The tour de France

  • Premiership football events

  • And we have even planned and installed marquees for Royal occasions.

The variety of work and clients makes the job very interesting, and as no two days are the same every marquee and every event is always fresh with its own challenges which certainly keeps us busy and inspired.

I am very much looking forward to 2022 and the years ahead, especially after the uncertainty and disruption caused by the pandemic, and the difficulties this brought for many.

As a team, we cannot wait to return to a full schedule of helping create unique venues and spaces for special events and experiences.

Nancy

Project Manager/Expert Stone Catcher

I’ve been with CGC Event marquees since I was a pup.

When I’m out on site with the team I‘m generally in charge of chasing birds away, collecting any sticks, finding stones and barking at sheep and cows.

I get to go to a lot of racecourses when the team are building hospitality marquees, which is great because there’s plenty of grass and land for me to run around on and sniff!

I share an office with Sarah and the boss (dad), where I have a very comfy bed in the corner.

It’s not a bad life, but I am aspiring to become chief taste tester for CGC Event Caterers one day (all paws crossed!)

Darren Stone

Marquee Manager/Health and Safety Officer

I started at CGC as a Marquee erector way back in 1997. I was introduced to the company by a friend, and I initially took up the role to earn some extra money to supplement my student lifestyle.

Twenty-five years later, and I am now the manager of CGC Event Marquees.

I have evolved into somewhat of a health and safety expert having recently completed my NEBOSH General Certificate.

The variety the job role brings is what I enjoy most. I could be erecting a 30m marquee for Harrogate Flower Show one day and then lining East Keswick Village Hall for a wedding the next. Each event has its own challenges and we look to overcome every one to deliver a perfect event for the client.

Darren Whiteside

Marquee Erector

I first started as a seasonal Marquee Erector at CGC Event Marquees back in 2010. A friend introduced me, and to say I was a little nervous is an understatement having never done a job like this before and being unsure what to expect.

However, I soon relaxed, working alongside a good set of lads who always pull together as a team and helped me learn the skills needed to do a great job.

I really do love this job and can honestly say, it’s the best job ever!

Wedding venues are always an amazing transformation, and the hard work really pays off when you see something so spectacular right there in front of you. No day is the same, and travelling up and down the country means being able to experience so many different views, sights and places. It’s a very rewarding role and I am excited by the times ahead!

Sarah Sturdy

Marquee Coordinator

I’ve been with CGC Event Marquees since June 2021, and it is an absolute pleasure to be a part of the company. I really enjoy getting to know our clients, helping them with all kinds of queries and organising bookings.

It’s great to get out on site too sometimes to see the marquees looking stunning in situ, especially for a wedding.

It’s fantastic when a booking transforms from measurements and designs on paper to a bespoke, unique and personal space.

A favourite venue of mine to visit is Goldsborough Hall. It is such an elegant, grand and romantic setting, and the team there are so lovely and welcoming. I love the Jacobean Library with its impressive fireplace and charming oak-panelling which would be the perfect spot for curling up with a book on a cold and drizzly afternoon. Our marquee extensions to the orangery room always sit very proudly on the patio overlooking the gorgeous landscaped gardens.

I’m very much looking forward to the year ahead, to meeting more clients, seeing more venues and helping with more celebrations and events.
